Why am I getting 'Oh dear, you cannot sell this item on Etsy'?

Let's learn about one of the errors that might occur while uploading products to Etsy due to Etsy principles for the products.

Upload Error: Oh dear! You cannot sell this item on Etsy.

Etsy works on the principle of sale of handmade items, crafts, or vintage products. Therefore, Etsy makes sure that the item that you are listing is in line with its principles.

If you upload a vintage product which is:

  •   Not handmade, vintage, or craft items.
  •   Made by someone else.
  •   Made after the year 2000 (less than 20 years of making).

Etsy detects it as a violation of its principles and, as a result, shows you this Error.

To solve this error, please follow the following steps:

IF THE PRODUCT IS MADE BY SOMEONE ELSE

  1. If your "Who made it?" is "Someone Else" make sure to change "What is it?" to "A supply or tool to make things."

  1. After you update the configurations, you can then proceed to upload your products to Etsy without any issues.

IF THE PRODUCT IS MADE BY SOMEONE ELSE AND IF IT IS NOT A SUPPLY OR TOOL TO MAKE THINGS

  1. If your "Who made it?" is "Someone Else" but not an "A supply or tool to make things," it must be a vintage product that was made atleast 20 years earlier today.

IF THE PRODUCT IS VINTAGE

Why does Etsy have this principle?

Etsy expects its users to make their products themselves. Etsy also expects the user to list the product as a supply or a craft tool if it is not made by the user. Additionally, the products should have been made before the year 2000 (over 20 years of making).

  1. Go to the settings page of our app:

  1. Click on the Etsy Configuration tab:

  1. Make sure that the item you are listing was made 20 years ago ( Before the year 2000) in the "When was it made?" section.

  1. After you update the configurations, you can then proceed to upload your products to Etsy without any issues.

That's it! Have a great time selling!
